daugimaharaj

There is an important temple here called the Dauji Mandir. There is a large Deity of Balarama in this temple. Several Balarama temples in Braja are known as the Dauji Mandir.
There are also two other temples in town named Banke-Behari and Harideva, in the Bazaar. The biggest festival is Aghan ka Mela, which is celebrated on the 15th day of the bright half of Agrahayana.
How To Get Here This place is 25km southeast of Mathura, on the other side of the river. It can be visited at the same time as going to Gokula or Raval. It is about an hour and fifteen-minute drive from Vrindavana. Baldeo is a fairly good-sized town and everyone in town knows where the Dauji Temple is located.
Dauji (Balarama) Temple
In this temple is a two metre (6’6") Balarama Deity that was installed by Vajranabha, about 4,900 years ago. This is the largest Deity in Braja Mandala. Dauji means “elder brother”. Balarama is black, with huge eyes, and His right hand is raised. In His left hand is a cup full of Varuni beverage. He is one of the four presiding Deities of Vrindavana. He is the presiding Deity for the South petal of the lotus of Vrindavana. This Balarama Deity is the only original presiding Deity left in Braja. The Deity of Balarama is black and the deity of Revati is white.
Revati, the wife of Lord Balarama, is also installed in this temple. She is to the left of the front altar door with her back to the wall facing Balarama. She cannot be seen from the front door of the altar, but she can be viewed from the right side door. Revati is Balarama’s consort in Dwarka.
Temple Timings Darshan times are 7 am to 12.30 pm, 3 to 4 pm, and 6 to 9 pm.
Ksira Sagar Kunda (Balabhadra Kunda)
This kunda is said to have been constructed by the residents of Braja, when they filled it with the milk from 100,000 cows as an offering to Balarama.
The Deity of Balarama was lost for a long time, but was rediscovered in this kunda behind the Dauji Temple called Ksira Sagar Kunda (also called Sankarshana Kunda or Dugdha Kunda). Ksira Sagar means the “sea of milk.” It is said that Gusain Gokul Nath had a dream that the Deity of Baladeva was in this tank.
How To Get Here Ksira Sagar Kunda is a large kunda directly behind the Deity of Balarama, about 20m from the temple. To get to this kunda you make a left after leaving the Dauji temple and you then walk 30 seconds.

Dau So Sata Nahin Jag Mein Koi Ek,
Dinan Pe Raksha Karen Varen Vighna Anek.

Means:- In the world, there is no giver generous as Lord Dauji (Balarama), who protects the helpless and smashes so many obstacles.

Near Gokul, in Village Baladeva (District Mathura), Shri Dauji Temple is situated 21 km southeast of Mathura, on the other side of Yamuna river. The name Dauji means ‘Elder Brother’. Here in the temple two metre (6×6″) Deity of Lord Balrama was installed by King Vajranabha.

Shri Dauji Maharaj

The Deity of Lord Dauji is a huge-bodied black form, right hand raised in a dancing pose, a cup of intoxicating ¨madhu¨ in his left, accompanied by his consort Revati Devi. Like Govindadev, Gopinath and Madanmohan, Dauji was established by Lord Krishna’s grandson Vajranabha about 5,000 years ago. According to tradition, Shri Baldev ji appears black when he becomes immersed in a particular special ‘Bhava’. Once Dauji was walking on Goverdhan when in the distance he saw Shri Yugal with gopis. When he got a glimpse of Radha’s love and Krishna’s special sweetness as he danced and sang with Her surrounded by the sakhis, the desire rose in his heart to love Krishna as Radha does. Meditating intensely on this vision of Lord Krishna, his body turned black like Krishna,s body.

This is the largest Deity in Braj Mandal. He is one of the four presiding Deities of Vrindavan. This Balarama Deity is the only original presiding Deity left in Braj. The Deity was lost for a long time, but was rediscovered in a kund behind the Dauji Temple called Shiv Nagara (also called Khirsagar or “sea of milk”). It is said that Goswami Gokul Nath had a dream that the Deity of Lord Balrama was in the tank.

Holi Festival at Dauji Temple

Playing Huranga (Celebration of Holi Festival) in this Dauji Temple is world famous.

“Jai Shri Radhe Krishna”
